Founded in 1565, the City of St. Augustine town plan was originally laid out in the late sixteenth century for foot traffic, for walking. That's the reason the streets are narrow, many one way, with many streets having overhanging balconies. Due to the narrow streets, parking in downtown and downtown neighborhoods in St. Augustine has always been at a premium.
Parking lots are located throughout the downtown area and on-street parking is available in may areas. Some areas require payment for parking with an pay-station and others with meters. Parking in these areas is enforced 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Saturday, excluding national holidays. Rate: $1.50 per hour
The closest metered parking is one block from the Main Entrance, 74 King Street on Granada Street behind the Lightner Museum.
Parking is also available at the Historic Downtown Parking Facility located at 10 S. Castillo Drive. Open 24 hours a day every day of the year the parking facility is convenient to St. George St. and San Marco Ave. as well as the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.
Bus parking is located at adjust to the Historic Downtown Parking Garage on corner of W. Castillo Dr and Riberia Street.
