Roberta Favis's sustained focus on Heade's life and career in Florida has significantly enriched the art historical literature. This book provides new perspectives not only on the artist but also on the social, historical and cultural context in which he worked. In particular, Favis's research reveals the synergy between Heade's artistic production and Henry Flagler's development of St. Augustine as well as the painter's contributions as an amateur naturalist.
